Hi, I’m Antonia. I was born in Manhattan and raised in Spanish Harlem. I am the second oldest of six children. As a child growing up it was pretty normal, but in my teens, that’s when I decided to experiment with drugs. At that time I didn’t know anything about getting saved. I grew up in a Pentecostal church. My grandfather was the pastor of the church, but the services were always in Spanish. I really didn’t know why Jesus Christ died on the cross for me.

So I continued to do drugs until one day I told myself, “What am I doing?” At that point I decided, “No more for me.” That’s when me and my husband started going to a Times Square church. At that time I really wasn’t saved. It took me a while, but in 2008 I realized I needed Christ in my life. So, one day I was home alone and started thinking, “Wow! I need Jesus Christ in my life.” That was when I asked God to forgive me for all of my sins. I realized that Jesus died on the cross for me. I have been serving him ever since. It’s been a blessing to have my husband, my children, and my family in my life today. If I wasn’t saved today, I don’t know where I would be.

I love coming to Commonwealth Community Baptist Church. I like the way Pastor Marty used to conduct the services and now with Pastor Joel, I like it a lot. He is a really good teacher. The church is like a family to me. The people are so friendly. I feel welcome here.

My family and I fled to Ghana, then to the U.S. This church has the same doctrine as our church back in Togo.

It was here that I learned what it means to be saved and to live for God. I love the people, the different ethnicities, the variety of backgrounds and cultures we have in our church.
