As is clear from the NT, Matthew was the first Gospel written, and it doubtless was completed and published within a very short time after the earthly life of Christ, probably immediately after His ascension.
There are numerous references to the Gospels in the Pauline Corpus, and certainly in the pastorals.
In the chart above we can see how the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19-20 is reflected in Paul’s admonition to Pastor Titus in Titus 2:11-13. We also note how verse 12 describes putting off the old man (“denying ungodliness and worldly lusts”) and putting on the new man (“we should live soberly, righteously, and godly”), which is pictured by the water immersion Christ commissioned to His church.
We thank God for the Bible doctrine of Matthean Priority and most importantly we rejoice that we are included in that Great Commission, both as recipients of the Good News of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection for our sins, as well as our calling to be ambassadors and teachers of all nations in preparation for the return of our soon coming King.

Our church is known as the Commonwealth Community Baptist Church of the Bronx. Sometimes people will refer to our church simply as “Commonwealth.”
As everyone in our church knows, this past Christmas season we completed a detailed study of I Timothy 3:16.
